Glaucoma and Diabetes

Over 16 million Americans suffer from some form of diabetes.  The most common form of diabetes is called adult-onset diabetes.  This typically develops in people over the age of 40 who have a sedentary lifestyle and are overweight.

There is a proven relationship between diabetes and glaucoma.  Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve.  The damage is often caused by pressure in the eye.  People with diabetes are twice as likely to develop glaucoma as people without diabetes.

The National Eye Institute recommends that people with diabetes get a dilated eye exam at least once a year.  To schedule your annual eye exam, please call Eyecare MPLS in Minneapolis at 612-470-9871 or eyecarempls.com.
